The Self Build Academy will be delivered by our team of self build experts and will be led by Brent Ackerman. Brent has worked within the industry for some 30 years in the capacity of NHBC Inspector, Site Manager and has led the self build construction team at Potton.
Mark Stevenson - Managing Director
Mark has 23 years’ experience in the construction industry and joined Kingspan Timber Solutions as Managing Director in February 2012. His focus is on providing a first class customer service, working collaboratively with clients in order to meet their changing needs in these changing economic times. Prior to joining the company, Mark worked as a construction professional and held the position of Construction Director with a regional construction company and residential developer.
Dr Paul Newman - Self Build Director
Dr Paul NewmanPaul has worked within the timber-based construction and consulting industries for over 18 years. Joining the Kingspan Group over six years ago, Paul now leads the company’s engagement with some of the most exciting low and zero-carbon housing developments in UK housing history, leads our design and technical team and makes sure that the systems manufactured by Kingspan Timber Solutions stays ahead of the pack.
Paul gravitated towards the MMC industry following the award of a PhD from Imperial College and a stint lecturing at London Guildhall University. Prior to joining Kingspan Paul spent 12 years working for TRADA (Timber Research & Development Association) where he gained experience of advanced timber frame systems in Germany, Sweden and Canada. As part of this work he managed projects to introduce these more advanced systems into the UK and ensure that they are appropriate for the UK climate and regulatory framework.
Paul joined the board of the UK Timber Frame Association in 2010 to optimise the provision of expert technical advice to both the association’s members and the industry as a whole.
Steve Brown - Head of Construction
Steve has been in the industry for over 30 years. Serving a five year indentured management training with Wimpey Construction UK/Carillion. Steve is a seasoned construction professional specialising in construction management who has also chaired the regional board of the Chartered Institute of Building. Steve has worked for Potton for 6 years and his construction experience extends form self build through to major construction projects.
Tom Allen - Self Build Consultant
I began my career with Potton in the drawing office and started out as a Trainee Technician. Within my 12 years in this department I progressed to the position of Senior Architectural Technician and trained in all aspects of the design and manufacture of timber frame earning several qualifications in engineering, energy reporting and roof design.
During my time at Potton, I continued my education and completed a degree in Marketing. This drew me away from the manufacturing side of the business and gave me the opportunity to be more customer facing. Drawing on my skills in construction, this led me into bespoke design where I began working with those customers wanting something beyond our standard range of house types. After several years in the role, I made the natural transition into sales where I have been working for 3 years as a Self Build Consultant.
In 2012, my partner and I undertook our own self build project, building our own Potton home in Cambridgeshire. I used my experience to redesign the interior and also took on the role of Project Manager. It was a great experience and really demonstrated how rewarding it is to build something unique and personal to us.
Sean Adams - Self Build & Planning Consultant South West
Sean’s first job was working for a firm of architects where he trained as an architectural designer. After a number of years in the sales industry, Sean joined Potton in 1999 as part of the Self Build sales team.
After 8 years of looking after his Potton clients in the home counties, Sean and his family moved to Devon in 2007. As well as building his own home, Sean has been involved in the design and construction of over 100 new Potton houses.
Drawing on his experience, Sean has also been responsible for many of the new designs featured in the Potton brochures over the years, including the Zenit range of properties. The Wickhambrook barn, which is the latest addition to the Show Centre, was also designed by Sean.
Adrian Bussetil - Planning Expert
Adrian Bussetil BA(Hons) DipUP MRTPI, began training as a town planner at the University of Westminster in September 1991. He was awarded with an Upper Second Class BA Honours Degree in Town Planning in July 1994 and a Postgraduate Diploma in Urban Planning in July 1995. He went on to become elected as a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute in July 1997. Over the last 18 years, Adrian has acted on behalf of Potton working throughout the country as a specialist planning and development consultant.
He is also a director of Partners in Planning and Architecture Ltd which is a Cambridgeshire based firm of planning and development consultants with substantial experience in all planning matters. He has provided exceptional planning and professional services to a wide range of corporate and private individuals, including national house builders.
He is presently involved with a number of projects that require extensive discussion and negotiation with Local Planning Authorities and Statutory Consultees. He is also heading active public consultation exercises and the presentation of expert evidence in a variety of planning applications and appeals.
Claire Roberts - Health, Safety & Quality Manager
Claire has spent over 19 years working within the timber frame industry here at Potton starting out as an Architectural Designer whilst obtaining a 1st Class honours Degree in Construction Management. Claire progressed through the Contracts Department spending time as a Customer Contracts Manager on both the Self Build and Commercial sides of our business before returning to the technical team as our Bespoke Designer. These roles provided a broad knowledge for time spent as a Regional Business Manager in Sales and a Quantity Surveyor within the commercial department. Outside of work Claire has built her own Potton home, a 5 bed modified Denham and renovated three houses.
Adrian Pargeter - Head of Technical & Marketing, Kingspan Insulation
Adrian Pargeter is Head of Technical & Marketing at Kingspan Insulation. He is responsible for the technical helpdesk, approvals, certification and compliance for all Kingspan Insulation products for Great Britain.
Adrian has a background in engineering, innovation and product design. He is passionate about understanding how new technologies and modern materials can be used to build low energy homes. Adrian was responsible for the fundamental research and development of OPTIM–R - the next generation of insulation for Kingspan.
Adrian represents Kingspan Insulation as a founder member of the Passivhaus Trust and is also active in working groups for the Sustainable Energy Association.
Angela Harrison - BuildStore
I have worked in financial services for over 25 years, I am fully FPC qualified and authorised under the Financial Conduct Authority to give full advice and recommendations in the areas of mortgage and protection. Sally Tagg - Foxley Tagg Planning Ltd
Sally Tagg is an experienced Chartered Town Planner and Managing Director of Foxley Tagg Planning Limited, while building up over 25 years of planning experience within the public and private sectors. Sally has also been the ‘Planning Expert’ for Homebuilding and Renovating magazine since 2007 as well as a Director of NaCSBA and is currently the Technical Representative.
David Snell has enjoyed over 30 years in the self-build industry and has built his own home thirteen times. He is the author of Building Your Own Home and is the building expert for The Daily Telegraph.
Mark Brinkley is a former commercial housebuilder and is the author of The Housebuilder’s Bible. He is currently commencing his second self-build project and has a range of expertise including housebuilding, selfbuilding and low energy construction in the UK.
David has 30 years’ experience in land & development and is working with land owners to bring forward custom build sites across the country.
